Job Description:Surgical Technologists perform various duties as
a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful
operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision
of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services
management. It is expected that the ORT IV will support system wide
and surgical operations initiatives and practices. In addition,
this person will actively participate in the surgical operations
safety plan as outlined. Posting Specifics
- Pay Details: $23.25 - $35.89/hour (Level III) (depending on
experience). 25.58 - $39.49/hour (Level IV) (depending on
experience). Plus, a sign-on bonus up to $15,000

- Shift Details: Full-time, 40 hours/week. 5x8 hour or 4x10 hour
shifts with on-call requirements, including weekends
- Department: Cardiovascular Operating Room, St. Mary's Medical
Center (Grand Junction, Colorado) Scope 1. Assists in nursing care
and preparation of surgical patients. Assembles, organizes and
completes case carts according to doctors preference lists.2.
Provides appropriate instrumentation, suture and all supplies as
requested and provides and maintains a sterile environment. May
assist surgeon by passing instruments to surgeon during cases.3.
Counts sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper
technique and established policy.4. Assists in maintenance and care
of specimens and prepares for laboratory analysis. Handles
specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated
materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and
recommended standards of practice5. Assists with timely turnover of
rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies
and equipment. Cares for instruments and equipment.6. Promotes
mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by
service behavior standards.7. Performs other duties as assigned.8.
May be required to float to other departments (within scope of
competency and qualifications) based on business need.9. May be
required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.
Minimum Qualifications Required (Level III)
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is
required
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for
Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained
within 60 days of hire with prior approval
- Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist
program or equivalent on the job training is required. Required
(Level IV)
- High school diploma or GED
- Current BLS certification
- Ability to complete call and weekend shift requirements as
needed, as well as providing for emergency staffing according to
policy
- At least two (2) years of OR Surgical Tech experience Preferred
- 1 year of OR scrubbing experience is preferred
- 1 year of clinical experience in an accredited hospital is
preferred
- Registered in state of practice as a Surgical Technologist is
required
- Graduation from formal, accredited surgical technologist
program or equivalent on the job training is required. To perform
this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

- Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels,
assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and
supplies.
- Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients,
and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well
as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and
issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency
situations.
- Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and
delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes
frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care,
accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer
patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and
equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and
including heavy items.
- Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients
and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This
includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including
heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms
(full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
- May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an
